I have seen many great ideas that people have used as emergency type gifts to have on hand. Some of these are good all year long, not just at Christmas, for those occasions where you forgot a birthday or other special occasion.

Cookies (home baked and in a Christmas type container are especially nice; stores also sell these in seasonal cans and gift sets)

Gift Cards to music stores, coffee shops, bookstores, etc
